No request to contact her clinic.

No request to repair things with Mom and Dad.

She wrote about the first night.

Watching Dad push the confession toward me.

Watching me refuse.

She didn’t call herself helpless.

She didn’t blame everything on panic.

I read it twice.

The old reflex told me to answer immediately.

The spare key stayed on my ring for another week.

Then one Saturday after pottery, I bought a padded envelope.

At home, I removed the key.

At nine, I locked my front door.
